Ahjuutal Rising

Acrylic, approx 7" x 10"

D&D Forgotten Realms, Ancient Empires ; internal illustration
©Wizards of the Coast,

Original artwork sold.

A once might city is lost beneath the waves, but one day it is said it will rise again...

Meanwhile adventurers are drawn to it's ruins, and the treasures that are supposedly lost beneath the waves.

In this painting I tried to distinguish between the watery realm, and that above, by strong palette, and value differences. I also tried to add a bit of distortion into the straight lines of the submerged buildings to give that impression of wavy lines that you get when looking through water.

This is a more pastoral piece for me, but I still maanged to sneak a few things in amongst the ruins.

Wow this is a hard painting to do, yet you have done it so well! I love the hidden Octopus! ;)
Hmmm. I bet you got bored doing this one. So much architectural detail.

You have once again confirmed my suspicions, that you are definitely not of this planet. Great work!

Aeris: O_o ........ Why the **** are you looking at me?! :rage:
It's Jingo from the Pratchett novel of the same name. Well, i know it's not, but it's the same concept =)

Great work. The watery look's always difficult to capture, and you've got it well here.

Wonderfull stuff there Ralph. I like the little hidden details, hammerhead shark. Love the detail on the tower and the rest of the buildings, really nice distortion (reflection/refraction) techniques too.

Sic gorgiamus allos subjectatos nunc -We gladly feast on those who would subdue us
it offers an interesting story as the city might rise for a day or two during the tides on the waters and adventurers flock to it in hopes of untold riches only to find untold horrors

The point of view on this one is the key I think. Awesome as always ;)
