Ambush by RalphHorsley Ambush by RalphHorsley
Ambush!

Acrylic, approx 7" x 10"

World of Warcraft trading card game illustration
©Blizzard Entertainment & Upper Deck,

Original artwork for sale; UK£250.

Diving out from the blinding Light of the sun an Orc seeks his victim!

I wanted to emphasise the sense of an ambush. I tried to contrast the stillness of the victim against the movement of the attacker.

To create further drama I placed the strong light source of the sun behind the Orc. This allowed me to bring out the forground Centaur by the use of rim light, and by intensifying that further I could blur the edges of the Orc to help with his movement.

I do admire your work 'cause it is absolutely phenomenal but tell me don't you think the right arm of the centaur looks a bit ...unnatural ???;)
I mean from that angle and in that position the muscles above elbow(especially biceps ) should be rotated a little bit further towards the chest/body...Of course I am probably wrong as I am nothing more than an amateur...:)
Anyway...the amount of details is amazing and the lighting is brilliant!!!

I think the 'human' musculature is too stiff, and could be better defined.

Other than that, glad you like it.

I would not want to be that orc. he may have the drop on the centaur, but he's about to get his a** kicked (I hope).

Nice job with the picture. It definitely covers the element of surprise, and the lighting feels great!

I really like how you almost give yourself a retroactive critique...explaining why you placed a certain element and what effect it has on the piece overall, and even the intended effect on the viewr. This is well done, and I have to say...I wish the centaurs in the game were that handsome instead of looking like neanderthals with hooves! This is what I would imagine it would look like if Blizz were ever to make a centaur race to play in the mmorpg. Well done!

It's great to see that...most people barely put in any comments, much less uselful talking about the composition and purpose fo the elements of a piece
