Ballyrush Banneret

Magic the Gathering; Morningtide. ©Wizards of the Coast

Acrylic, Approx 11" x 7.5".

Original artwork SOLD

The battle cry rang out across the meadow as the brave Kithkin led the charge.

I chose a low point of view to try to add to the drama, which in turn was reinforced by the movement in the banner.

I also wanted to try to capture the bright sunlight of a summers day This informed the choice of rim lighting, which also helps pick out the form of the figure.

I've always enjoyed your stunning use of the technical aspect of art. The way you approach lighting, emotion, dynamic, and setting to reach a powerful and altering world is just ..... wow.

I really have always loved the way you put your thoughts in the comment box and help us on the way to become artists.

Great mood and atmosphere as well as power and disruption of nature show themselves here, great work mate!

Your pictures are so perfectly done. Your perspective is great and the composition is so dynamic. Do you really use real acrylic paint to do all this stuff. Cause I've tried to use paint and I have never been able to obtain such results. How many years have you been using this medium? I'm really impressed by your artworks! :)

did you do all the bannerets?
kithkin look so much more badass in morningtide.
why are there butterflys just floating around? they seem unmoved by the charging little one
the light really brings out the emotion in this piece.

Yes, I did all the bannerets. The idea for the butterlies is that they are flying up/being disrupted by the kithkin.

Thanks :)

So, as you make a piece like this, do you have to use a lot of brown?
Reply
:iconralphhorsley:
RalphHorsley Featured By Owner Jan 29, 2008  Professional Traditional Artist
Yes, a certain amount of brown was used, but also lots of accent colours in the same value range. To help create the copper effect their is orange, violet, yellow, and even green in there.

No, I have no say in the card design - see the banneret article I linked to in my journal.
