D&D Fantastic Locations; City of Peril supplement cover artwork.

Spectrum 14 entry.

This is a painting commissioned for the cover of this D&D supplement. I enjoyed trying to capture the moonlight and painting all those rats!

That's because of the way just about everything fantasy is, geared rioght to the human characters and nothing else.

Wererats are cool looking, too bad all they amount to in D&D is kill fodder and not much else. Meh a well I guess D&D ill never change much, dount the nerds would let it change they'd likely spazz.

I played a wererat in DnD. Quite good because they are immune to everything but magic. (")>

I just assume all anyone ever plays is humans elves and dwarves and everything else is a mindless practice dummy.

I don't have knowledge of D & D (I used to play in "The Temple of Elemental Evil" but it is crap-shit, I do not know how to play-play it).
I have a question,
Is the relationship-connections between rats and dead-things are the same-same as in Warhammer (VEEEEEEEERY BAD)?
Somebody tell-tell me.
Beautiful-wonderful art :)

No, I would have mixed other colours for the darkest values.

of course, but I'm a bit surprised you did not use even darker values for the very foreground, you know

I so do not want to walk down that alley at night.
Even with my party backing me up.

Such a variety of rats and each one with an unique snarl.

I love the composition of this image. It has all the power and immediacy of a symmetrical layout with out the loss of movement. The way it tilts and throws the visual weight across the image is very effective. I'm just blown away by how you frame the central figure by the swords and the arch, yet the image is so kinetic! Your mastery is self-evident, thanks for the great ideas and inspiration!
