Death Battle,

Acrylic, approx 8" x 11"
© Wizards of the Coast, internal illustration for the D&D Forgotten Realms supplement Shining South.

Original artwork SOLD

I'm am not sure what dark forces have brought together these undead skeletal foes to fight once more in undeath, as they did in life, but it is a battle that must be fought to its final conclusion.

With this vignette composition I wanted to use the form of the Skeletal Dragon to act as part of the frame. I was pleased when I came upon the idea of using the sweep of the tail to frame the bottom edge of the image.

I felt this not only framed the pciture, but also drew the eye back in along the length of the tail, at the same time as providing depth of field, and movement through the figures it has contacted.

As a focal point I chose the Dragon's head and concentrated the lightest values here, alongside making the light source the top left corner of the image.

I look forward to any comment.

Looks very nice, the foreshortening on the wing bones is awesome, and the bone structure looks very realistic. I really like the way it's framed, great work.

Simply stunning as always! Reminds me of the first time my husband and I stumbled onto a skelatol dragon in the Guild Wars game :giggle: Don't think I've ever made a character run that fast away from a battle as I did that day carrying some flag we had to get past that fellow!

I'm pleased you feel the composition works. Thanks :)
