Stonybrook Banneret by RalphHorsley Stonybrook Banneret by RalphHorsley
Stonybrook Banneret

Magic the Gathering; Morningtide. ©Wizards of the Coast

Acrylic, Approx 11" x 7.5".

Original Artwork SOLD

The Merfolk elegantly glides through the shimmering watery depths.

This is one of a set of five Bannerets, or heralds. They all have banners, in this case worn as a cloak, and a musical instrument.

I wanted to compose this with a strong sense of design, and a subtle light source to put the focus on her face.

While this piece really flows and highlights all of the important parts, the details really help to make it all work.

I believe though, in my own personal opinion that her face could have had a more pronounced shadow as it currently seems to be very flat.

Great work my friend, continue it all!

Lorewin and Morningtide are two expancioes of magic that in my opinion contributed very much artistically, Merfolk, Elves, Kithkin, Faerie, flamekins, all of them are fantastic creatures that to they my me have fascinated. I aspire to some day to have the sufficient talent to do(paint) for magic. I love the fantastic art and admire very much the talent of big artists of sete kind(genre), you are one of them, Lockwood, Dan Scott, Jim Murray, borons - szikszai, and you gentleman Horsley they are in the top of my admiration. Much makes me happy it to find you in Deviant, and I hope that it(he,she) continues contributing more of his(her, your) grand art to this world. Thank you.

The tiny size of this painting completely and utterly amazes me. May I ask; how small a brushes do you use?

It dioesn't feel that small when I work on it ;) my smallest brush is usually a '3'.

Thanks :)

Wowzah. . . You use the very tip? And quite liquid paint?

I find fiddly detail hard, so I don't tend to do smaller paintings. :(

Yes, I do fiddly, and am very fussy about keeping a nice tip to my brush. I hate those stray bristles - grrr. ;)

Yus, stray bristles are indeed most irritating. . . :dohtwo:

Btw, I see you're based in Leeds. . . You might possibly have (or have had) some twat calling himself Robert Cross ringing from a research agency on behalf of Kirklees Council, that'll be me. . . . :D
